Keirrison: Liverpool Target Teenage Brazilian Wonderkid to Maintain Title Bid

Keirrison: Is the Brazilian Wonderkid the Final Piece in the Liverpool Jigsaw? It has emerged that Rafa Benitez is targeting a teenage Brazilian striker to compliment his League leaders in January. The player in question is Keirrison de Souza Carneiro or just plain Keirrison for short. The young star has been in prolific form in Brazil’s Serie A this season for his club side Coritiba so it’s of no surprise that a number of European clubs have been alerted to his talent.

Liverpool have been added to a list of interested clubs which includes Olympiakos, Barcelona and Valencia. The 19-year-old is rumoured to have already signed a pre-contract to join fellow Brazilian club Palmeiras but with some of Europe’s biggest clubs stepping up the chase that may not be of importance.

Despite Keirrison’s tender age he has already shown just how prolific he can be in his homeland. This season alone he has scored an impressive 16 goals in just 24 League appearances (23 starts). This is a remarkable feat since this is only his 2nd League season after scoring 12 goals in 32 League appearances (all starts) in the last campaign. Few teenagers in world football can boast such an impressive strike tally as 28 goals in 56 League appearances so it’s no surprise he is attracting such attention.

Keirrison broke into the Coritiba first team in 2007 helping the club to promotion from Serie B but the way he has taken to the top division has underlined his incredible potential. The 5 ft 11 forward is renowned for his pace and finishing ability and his 16 League goals leaves him just 3 strikes behind the division’s current top scorer Kleber who plays for Santos. Coritiba currently sit 8th in the 20-team Serie A after an excellent return to the top flight.

So would you like Liverpool to strengthen the squad with another young striker? Is Keirrison the promising young talent that Rafa should be looking to bring to Anfield? Let’s hear your views.
